As a Second City Alumna, Storytelling and Presence Coach, I believe in a holistic approach to communication skills development. Over the last decade, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of joy, laughter, and psychological safety to enhance communication.

STORYTELLING TRAINING

ART + SCIENCE + PHILOSOPHY = STORYTELLING

Aristotle was known to be a great storyteller and identified three modes of persuasion which he used with audiences:

Logos (logical appeal) creating a well structured, clear narrative with supportive data.
Ethos (ethical appeal) establishing trust and credibility as a speaker with tone, body, voice.
Pathos (emotional appeal) including imagery, specifics and emotions for connection.

By combining these elements, Storytellers can create compelling narratives that resonate, inspire action and are remembered by audiences. In fact, research suggests Storytelling engages multiple regions of the brain, which helps with understanding and memory retention. Building your Storytelling Skills helps to create trust and connection with the world around you. And according to Aristotle (and many of our clients) it can be highly persuasive too.

Content: Preparation, Practice & Performance, using story devices, group feedback & live coaching, stage presence, clear, concise, consistent team messaging, delivery on stage, on camera, virtually and in the boardroom.

PRESENCE COACHING

AWARENESS + MINDFULNESS + ADAPTABILITY = PRESENCE

Presence is listening and connecting with your body, voice and mind. Reading the room and effectively showing up requires social awareness and adaptability.

Improv Rules: Yes and, Risk, Fail fast, Follow the fear, No mistakes only opportunities.
Stage Strategies: Reading the room, non-verbal cues, diction & delivery, voice tone, body movement.
Mindfulness Practices: Grounding, breathing, being present, noticing and awareness.

Building your individual Presence is about being and celebrating your authentic self and fostering your Superpowers, while noticing and embracing your Kryptonite. Self awareness plays a key role in how we engage and innovate at work and home.

TEAMBUILDING

The need for belonging and connection is essential. Creating an enviroment where all team members feel pschologically safe, enabling them to speak up, be heard and seen and create together is the key to innovation and joy at work!

Acceptance: Evidence based improv exercises to build trust, awareness of diversity of thought.
Humour: Incorporating laughter, fun and connection at work.
Exploration: Curiosity, risk taking and skills development go hand-in-hand.

ABOUT

With 20+ years of experience in the creative world, Jest Media founder Jack Hourigan helps people get out of their heads, so they can uncover their hidden gifts. Jack reaches audiences with her unique blend of truth, humour, insight and empathy.

She is an alumna of The Second City, a former Television Host (Food Network, Slice, W, CityTV ), an Actor/Writer and holds a degree in Theatre from McGill University. She has worked and trained extensively with an amazing network of improvisors, facilitators, writers, media and corporate professionals over the past two decades. A hand picked group of these extraordinary humans makes up the Jest Media Specialty Coaching and Consulting Team.

Over the past decade, she has trained, coached and laughed with everyone from Scientists, to Start-up Founders and CEOs as the co-founder of SwayPartners with Ellen Morita.
